Story

A collaboration with my bud Rex Houser who wrote and sang a moving song about his Father’s passing....Anthony Occhipinti played drums. I produced, wrote the bridge, and performed the remaining instruments / harmonies. Fun collaboration and an outstanding first song by the good Dr Rex Houser saluting Big Jim, the one and only, and original, Dr Jim Houser...a great man!

Lyrics

Earnestly Lived Life
I rubbed your hair
I watched you die
After you steeled your constitution
To say your goodbyes
Your favorite poems
Your old buck knife
These are the remnants
Of an earnestly lived life
Worked your fingers to the bone
But still found the time to sing
Never focused your mind’s eye
On all the shiny things
Never leave the barn door open
Back your brothers in a fight
These are the remnants
Of an earnestly lived life
You had your scars
Took God to task
For his betrayals as you saw them
Keeping notches on your flask
Secrets you shared
Thrown like a dart
To those that you held close
Etched upon on their hearts
Don’t spend your whole life chasing
The glitter and the gold
Be the steady plotting one
Keep your family in the fold
Appreciate the simple things
And of your brothers don’t lose sight
These are the remnants
Of an earnestly lived life
Lead
Alone in the dark
Whiskey on ice
Charging up your soul
On troubadours by night
Worked your fingers to the bone
But still found the time to sing
Never focused your mind’s eye
On all the shiny things
Never leave the barn door open
Back your brothers in a fight
These are the remnants
Of an earnestly lived life
Four molded boys
A dutiful wife
These are the remnants
Of an earnestly lived life...
